shapes of shanghai

**READ THEN SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM....WORK YOUR WAY UP*****

so nick and i went on a weekend getaway to shanghai, china. it was unreal. the different neighbourhoods and areas of shanghai were so fascinating. first you're in the back-streets of what you imagine china to be, then walking through european neighbourhoods, then modern high rise office buildings, then the neon-lit tourist areas where people come up and whisper 'you want watch, you want bag, you want shoes', then there's the snooty high end fine dining district and then you're in the quite suburbs that feel like north america. it was amazing.

we got pretty lucky too. we stayed right in the middle of all the action, smells (some not so pleasant) and sounds. the honking mostly. its very tourist friendly though. we had no trouble getting around and used subways and taxis no problem. we also went to the world EXPO that was the hype around town....sorry i should say around 'biggest city in the world': 13,830,900 people to be exact (says wikipedia).

anyway, scroll all the way to the bottom, and make your way up! (its way easier to upload that way). miss you all xo

CANADA! see you in 44 days! went inside...got some disappointing corn on the cob but the best news: Nick shook hands with a mounty.

Japan's exhibit.

S. Korea's line was much like India....so we didn't go in :( looked cool though.

this was the line up for the India exhibit. this is when we looked at each other and thought...what were we thinking?! it was sooooo busy....and so HUGE!

World EXPO. spot the angry guy.

when you are in shanghai you have to be careful of people coming up to you saying that they are students and just being friendly. apparently they ask you to go for a tea or lunch of something and end up leaving you with an enormous bill...something around $1,000 and there are big body-guard looking guys that make sure you pay....be fore-warned. we were....anyway...this sign just reminded me to tell that story. we were only approached once and walked off pretty fast.

we had one rainy night
